The painting Nest for Poison Snails is a watercolor completed after 155 hours of work. The details have been made with well practiced brushing techniques, using a combination of brushes, blending techniques, lifting techniques, brushing and occasionally highlighting with white charcoal. The dominant color is emerald green to reflect the surrounding wooded area.

This is a self portrait that reflects the wooded area surrounding the artist. The place in which the artist currently lives is filled with snails of various sizes. It is a tropical farmland teeming with snails, clams and frogs, which are found everywhere in the balcony, the dining room and the kitchen. On rainy days, frogs hop around throughout the concrete house. The natural environment invades and overtakes everything, with furniture getting covered with mushrooms with even a little moisture. The mushrooms are very difficult to remove. There are too many trees and a substantial orchard, too many ants and too many millipedes. The artist lives in a farmhouse in a forest of sorts. The artist even saw a snake once.

All the woods and trees have long been a source of rich and otherworldly imagination. What might be hiding behind the trees? What otherworldly spaces exist beneath them? Are all the raised lands on which the trees grow really homes for hobbits?

What was that shadow seen moving at 3 a.m.? The artist is certain it had been seen once or twice before. What fantasy creatures live when humans are not looking? Neighbors used to talk about fairies taking away children and men, and water creatures dragging people under.

The artist is working on a fantasy creature just like that or creatures like that. This artwork depicts one such creature that has been invaded by poisonous snails, which have replaced its eyes to live inside their slimy nest. The snails’ slime trickles slowly and painfully through the calloused skin. The slime is poisonous and painful, trickling down the creature’s face slowly, causing reddening, rashes and moss growth, eventually transforming it into a humanoid monster.
