This artwork has a number of interpretations. A simple one is to look out from where you are into a different scene or vista; looking out to see the sea, or out of your window to watch the clouds rolling by.
Another way to interpret it is as a look out on duty, facilitating an early warning of danger, signaling approaching land or even icebergs from a ship a century or so ago, perhaps in the crow’s nest. These days it is all technology and G.P.S signals.
“Look out!” is, of course, a warning, a call to beware of a coming danger or threatening situation. A large contrast to a look out at a beautiful horizon at peace with the world or oneself, perhaps ignoring other stimuli. The warning shout has been heard for years.
