I remember a particular occasion whilst I was at school attending the weekly French lesson. I was asked to read to the whole class from the French text book. I must have been around the age of twelve, at a school in the North of England, not known for its exposure to French pronunciation, not known for its natural French speakers and my accent was far from French. I pronounced “Singes” as singes as if it were something being slightly burnt. I remember distinctly because I was the only person in the classroom who did not laugh when the words came out.
Just because a monkey wears a hat it does not mean that he is clever. Though the way he parades around you would think he was. Are we not all monkeys wearing hats?
